From the Pastor
Search Committee
St.
Charles Avenue Baptist Church is seeking a new senior pastor,
following the 15-year tenure of the Rev. Steven Meriwether.
Our experienced staff and deacons and our hard-working committees
and congregants continue to make St. Charles a spiritually
vibrant community and a distinctively ecumenical Baptist
voice in our city. The nine members of the Pastor Search
Committee have begun in earnest the thoughtful work of seeking
a pastor. As part of that process, we have called an interim
pastor who will help guide us in a deliberate and thoughtful
consideration of the leadership needs, wants and hopes of
our entire congregation. And while the nine of us are committed
to discretion out of respect for the search process, please
know that we will come to you immediately with any news
to report. Please keep the committee in your prayers.
November
Update:
The Pastor Search
Committee has accomplished much in September and
October, thanks to the cooperation of the congregation.
A series of town
hall meetings was held where the committee, along
with Interim Pastor Alan Redditt, listened to members have
lively
conversations about our church's current needs and what
they'd would
like to see in a new senior pastor.
After reviewing
the results of these meetings, the committee will send
out a short written survey to all church members, as well
as to those
who might have been scattered by Hurricane Katrina. We hope
to
distribute this survey in early November, in time for our
church's
110th anniversary celebration.
Advertisements
for the job have been placed in print and online, and
the committee is carefully reviewing all the resumes that
come in.
The
committee is still eager to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
Those that are submitted in writing get the most attention
by all the
members of the committee. There is a mailbox in the church
office
where you may drop notes, or you may email them to committee
member
Michele Benson Huck at shelhuck@juno.com.
